Each year, the media produced by secular outlets continues to grow more vile and grotesque. Books become bestsellers through self-indulgent teaching and promises of getting rich quick. Movies are filled with violence and foul language. The Internet has become a breeding ground for the pornography industry and self-acclaimed gurus. As Catholics, where do we turn to find family-friendly, pro-Catholic media?
To help you on your journey, I will review the best Catholic books, movies, and websites. Catholic books can be a great source for learning and deepening our faith, Catholic movies can inspire us to be better Catholics in our daily lives, and Catholic websites can help us to connect with the world around us.
I hope you find these resources helpful, and please send any recommendations for great Catholic books, movies, and wesites.

Every life is beautiful. That is the message that comes through in a very powerful way when watching October Baby, the new movie just released to DVD and Blu-Ray.
October Baby tells the story of Hannah, a young woman who learns that her life is not what it seemed to be. After collapsing on stage during a college theater performance, she is rushed to the hospital for treatment. For years, she has struggled with a variety of medical problems, and her most recent episode will soon reveal why.
The movie takes us on the emotional journey of this young woman as she searches for answers. Everything she once thought she knew about her life seems to be a lie, and now, she wants to find the truth. While on her journey, however, she finds out that the past does not matter as much as the future.

Can you discern God's will for your life? How do we know what God wants for us? Is there a way for us to listen to or hear God's voice? Discernment can be one of the greatest challenges we face in our spiritual journey, but in his book, God's Voice Within, Mark E. Thibodeaux, SJ teaches us how to listen for God's wisdom and guidance.
God's Voice Within takes its message from St. Ignatius of Loyola's teachings on discernent found in the Spiritual Exercises. While the Spiritual Exercises focuses on retreat-style learning, Thibodeaux's book helps to bring St. Ignatius's teaching to us in a way that we can incorporate directly into our daily lives. He brings his years of experience as a Jesuit, specifically in prayer and discernment, to the printed page.

One goal of many Catholics and Christians is to read the Bible in its entirety. Not knowing where to start, many of us simply start at the beginning and try to read the Bible from cover to cover - like every other book that we've read. We soon find out that this might be more difficult than we first imagined. As a guide to help us understand the Bible, Jeff Cavins and Tim Gray have written an excellent book, Walking with God: A Journey through the Bible.
Reading the Bible from cover to cover can be hard for anyone to follow the narrative story of the Bible. Walking with God: A Journey through the Bible simplifies this by grouping together major periods from Scripture and laying out the Bible as the beautiful story that it is. If you're looking for an easy, fun way to really understand the history of the Church, from Adam and Eve to David, from Jesus to the early Church, this book is the answer.

Less than a century ago, religious freedom was being taken away from an entire nation of people, and not in some distant third world country, but right here in North America. For Greater Glory documents the struggles of the Mexican people fighting for their beliefs in the early 20th century.
For Greater Glory depicts the Cristero War, also known as the Cristiada, from 1926 to 1929. During this tragic time in Mexico's history, Catholics were persecuted for practicing their faith, and priests were martyred simply for wearing their religious vestments in public. The government sought to silence the country's religious leaders and establish a purely secular government.

In his book, If Protestantism is True: The Reformation Meets Rome, Devin Rose examines the claims made by the Protestant faith and defends the Catholic faith with knowledge and truth. His examination of Protestant views is both fair and equal, but still focuses on explaining how it is incorrect. Despite his opposition to Protestant teachings, he shows deep respect for their beliefs, especially as a former Protestant himself. He avoids argumentative language and never slanders them for their differences.
For Protestants, this book will be an eye-opening look at Catholic doctrine. It directly addresses misconceptions about the Catholic faith and how they have shaped the world's distorted view of Catholicism. He also examines the errors in Protestant teaching. He does this in a way that will lead to examination and discovery through thoughtful questions.
