You Are Called

After His resurrection, Jesus said something to His disciples that changed the world:

"Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."  -Matthew 28:19-20, NAB

Christ's words to His disciples set the tone for Christianity.  Since His death, the disciples had spent much of their time locked behind closed doors, fearing their own death.  The early Christians were afraid of being persecuted for being followers of Jesus.  They were afraid to step out and spread the good news.  Even after all that they had seen Him do, they were still afraid.

Are you afraid?  Have you stepped out into the world and shared the good news?  Being a Catholic and a Christian is not the most popular thing today.  Often times, you may even be ridiculed for your beliefs.  So, instead of face ridicule, we keep our faith behind closed doors.  We are not even facing death the way Christ's disciples were, and we are just as afraid as they were.  With everything Christ has done for us, how can we be so selfish?  By no means am I accusing others without accusing myself first.  We have all fallen guilty of this at one time or another.  Well, it's time to change that.

Christ did not ask us do to Him a favor.  He commanded us.  He commissioned us to spread the news to all nations.  Imagine, if someone had not shared the good news with you, where would your faith be?  It is time to step out of fear and share Christ with the world.  Tell them of the great things He has done.  Encourage them to be baptized.  Teach them the ways of Christianity.  Do what Christ commanded you to do.  He gave everything for you; now, you must give everything for Him.

"The supreme test is the giving of one's life, to the point of accepting death in order to bear witness to one's faith in Jesus Christ."  -Pope John Paul II, Redemptoris Missio

What's Next?

For the next few weeks, we will be looking at the 40 days Christ spent on Earth after His resurrection and before His ascension to heaven.  Then, that will lead us directly into Pentecost.  Some great material coming up!
