Speaking Through the Spirit
In the last few verses, we have found the path to faith. To learn more about God, we must do so through His wisdom, not ours. If we want to share our faith in Him, we must do so through His Spirit. Now, we learn why many struggle to do this:
"Now the natural person does not accept what pertains to the Spirit of God, for to him it is foolishness, and he cannot understand it, because it is judged spiritually." -1 Corinthians 2:14, NAB
One of the ways that this manifests itself is through scientific arrogance. In other words, many people are so rooted in their beliefs, based on what they have learned in science, that they cannot accept the very idea of God. Science is an ever-changing knowledge, and we learn more about the beauty of the world God created everyday. And, as we learn more, we often learn how wrong we were. Remember when the scientific world thought the world was flat? What about the Earth being the center of the universe? Science does not always get it right, but that's okay. At the same time, we must not be so enamored with science that we forget about a truth that has not changed in 2000 years - Christ is the Redeemer of the world. Science has changed what it believes as it grows and learns more; the Church becomes more rooted in its faith as it grows and learns more. Our world is drifting away from faith. Sadly, many choose to follow scientific teaching based on pure hypothesis, instead of the truth that comes through Jesus. If we want to understand God, even from a scientific viewpoint, we must do so through the Spirit. We will not find God in a microscope, telescope, or any other form of mechanical scope. If we want to find Him, we must look through the scope of our heart and the lens of the Holy Spirit.
