God Alone Can Judge

As we move into Chapter 4, Paul discusses being judged by others and judging ourselves:

"It does not concern me in the least that I be judged by you or any human tribunal; I do not even pass judgment on myself; I am not conscious of anything against me, but I do not thereby stand acquitted; the one who judges me is the Lord. Therefore, do not make any judgment before the appointed time, until the Lord comes, for he will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will manifest the motives of our hearts, and then everyone will receive praise from God."  -1 Corinthians 4:3-5, NAB

Paul's outlook is one that we should all aspire to.  Not only does he not care who judges him in this world, but he does not judge himself.  Too often, especially in today's society, we worry too much about what others will think or say about us.  Instead of following our hearts and doing what we know is right, we make our decisions based on how we will appear to others, but we need to overcome this.  There are times that, as Catholics and Christians, we will stand out from the crowd and face judgment for it.  No matter what others may say or accuse us of, we must continue to follow the path the Lord has made.  Worse than the judgment we face from others, we can often be our own worse critics.  We will hold ourselves accountable for the sins we commit.  While we must recognize our sins and turn from them, no one, not even ourselves, can judge us.  We must leave the judgment on our lives and our sins to God, where it belongs.  Only God knows what is in our hearts, and only God can judge us.  In everything you do, live right by Him, and let Him do the judging when the time comes.
