Saved by Faith...

For today's verse, I send this up as an offering on the behalf of a family member who has passed.  May Christ show him mercy, and I pray for the repose of his soul.  If you have experienced a loss, now or in the past, may this help you to find peace:

"For Christ is the end of the law for the justification of everyone who has faith. Moses writes about the righteousness that comes from (the) law, 'The one who does these things will live by them.' But the righteousness that comes from faith says, 'Do not say in your heart, "Who will go up into heaven?" (that is, to bring Christ down) or "Who will go down into the abyss?" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).' But what does it say? 'The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart' (that is, the word of faith that we preach), for, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."  -Romans 10:4-9, NAB

At one time, the Jews lived by the laws that God had given Moses.  By obeying these laws, they were able to find righteousness by following these commandments.  With our sinful nature, receiving God's grace through obedience was anything but easy.  Now, with the saving grace that we find in Jesus Christ, we have found righteousness through our faith; He will save those who honestly call out His name.

Christ came to bring us a New Covenant so that, through faith, we may enter His Kingdom in Heaven.  Imagine an eternity spent with God in all of His glory, where we can find everlasting peace with our Father.  Although we mourn the death of those who passed, we must also celebrate their lives on earth and the joy that they now find with the Lord in Heaven.  We must not fear death; we must accept it as a part of the cycle of life.  Our earthly bodies may pass away, but our soul will continue to live on.

What will heaven be like?  Unfortunately, there is not much reference in Scripture to tell us.  It is beyond anything that our minds can comprehend.  We are left to dream and wonder of the true beauty that we will find when we get there.  It is left to our imagination.  Can you imagine?

"I can only imagine what it will be like, when I walk by Your side... I can only imagine, what my eyes will see, when Your Face is before me! I can only imagine. I can only imagine. Surrounded by Your Glory, what will my heart feel? Will I dance for you, Jesus? Or in awe of You, be still? Will I stand in Your presence, or to my knees will I fall? Will I sing 'Hallelujah!'? Will I be able to speak at all? I can only imagine! I can only imagine!"  -MercyMe, I Can Only Imagine

Lord, grant eternal peace to those who have gone before us.  Shine your light and mercy upon the faithful departed.  Welcome them with open arms into the glory of heaven.  In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Amen.
