Responding in Grace

As Catholics and Christians, we will not always be the most loved of people, but we must respond in a Christ-like way:

"When ridiculed, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we respond gently."  -1 Corinthians 4:12-13, NAB

One of the toughest parts of being a Christian can be the interaction we have with others.  Unlike those who simply live of the world, we are called to live at a higher moral standard.  No matter how others may treat us, our response must reflect God's love and grace.  The world sees Christ through us, and we want them to see his pure, kind heart.  Others may ridicule us because of the choices we make, persecute us for living to a different moral standard, or slander us for our Christian beliefs.  They can only see us through the narrow lens that this world has to offer.  When we respond to them, we must not respond in the same narrow focus, we must be able to see them with the same wide lens that Christ can see them with.  They may hurt us.  They may say horrible things about us.  But, God still loves them, and we should love them just the same.
