The World is Passing Away...
The more things change; the more they stay the same:
"I tell you, brothers, the time is running out. From now on, let those having wives act as not having them, those weeping as not weeping, those rejoicing as not rejoicing, those buying as not owning, those using the world as not using it fully. For the world in its present form is passing away." -1 Corinthians 7:29-31, NAB
Just as we are today, the early Church was surrounded by a sinful world. While we may feel that the world is worse than it has even been, the truth is that it has long been a place separated from God. Paul is challenging the Corinthians to separate themselves from the fallen world. The world is focused on the things of this world, but as Christians, we must be focused on the One who created it. We face a time in history when same sex unions are being defined as marriage, abortion is an acceptable form of birth control, and we are taught that it is our right to indulge in all of our earthly desires. The world may fall, but we can rise above it. The world is passing away, but we can find hope for eternal life in Jesus Christ. Do not follow the ways of the world. Instead, follow the Lord; He will lead you home.
