Real Body, Real Blood...

One of the issues that divides Catholics from other denominations - transubstantiation:

"The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?"  -1 Corinthians 10:16, NAB

This verse is one of those used when explaining the Catholic view of transubstantiation.  Many people, including some Catholics, do not fully understand what this means.  Basically speaking, we believe that the substance of the bread and wine is transformed into the real body and blood of Jesus Christ.  For those who follow this teaching, we are offered a way to grow closer to our God through this Holy Sacrament.

When we celebrate Mass, our focus should be on our relationship with God.  In the Sacred Liturgy, we learn more about God through Scripture.  In the Eucharist, we have the opportunity to connect with Him in a more personal way.  With that in mind, we must approach the altar in a manner that Christ deserves.  Our hearts must be in the right place, and our minds must be focused on the Lord.  The Eucharist is one of the many blessings that we find in the Catholic Church, and it is one that I am grateful to partake in.
