Called to Lead...
Christian men are called to be the head of the family:
"But I want you to know that Christ is the head of every man, and a husband the head of his wife, and God the head of Christ." -1 Corinthians 11:3, NAB
In today's society, roles have been redefined in the family. Society has begun to paint a disturbing picture of family life, and it is a picture where men's roles have diminished. Women have stepped up to fill the role that men are traditionally supposed to take, but it leaves a large void in the family. On television and in movies, the father is often shown as an immature, irresponsible simpleton who can barely tie his own shoelaces. Well, it is time to change all of that; it's time for men to step up to the challenge.
Church teaching tells us that men are supposed to step up and take the lead in their families. For a variety of reasons, this is happening less and less today. Sometimes, it is because men are apathetic and lazy, or they are more focused on their careers and other interests, instead of their families. At other times, it may be because their wife takes this role from them, for one reason or another. I hate to say it, ladies, but this is not how God intended it. Now, this is not to diminish a woman's role, but simply that we hold separate, unique, equally important roles. Whatever the reason may be, we must reverse the erosion of the family and rebuild them as God intended.
Recently, there was a song that came out that challenged men to step up and take the lead:
"Lead me with strong hands. Stand up when I can't. Don't leave me hungry for love chasing dreams, but what about us?
Show me you're willing to fight; that I'm still the love of your life. I know that we call this our home, but I still feel alone." -from Lead Me by Sanctus Real
To my Sweetie, may I always be the strong leader that God asks me to be and that you expect me to be.
