Sharing Our Suffering and Joy...
As one body, we share in each others suffering and joy:
"If (one) part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if one part is honored, all the parts share its joy. Now you are Christ's body, and individually parts of it. -1 Corinthians 12:22-25, NAB
What affects one part of the body, affects the rest as well. When one of us suffers, the rest of us, as the body of the Church, suffers as well. Similarly, if one of us is honored, we are all honored. Unfortunately, it seems that we share in just as much suffering as we do joy.
God's children across the world are suffering. Some are facing the pains of hunger due to famine, famine caused by droughts and the failure of complete crops. Others are facing plagues and diseases like HIV and malaria that threaten entire populations without access to quality healthcare. In the western world, we often forget about our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering. At the same time, we are suffering in our own way from the the effects of a fallen world that succumbs to every temptation.
It is time for us to focus ourselves on helping our brothers and sisters in need. The work of many missionaries needs our help, whether we join them as missionaries or donate to help their cause. At the same time, we must take a stand for morality in our own societies to end the suffering due to a world that gives in so easily to the temptations of this world. Also, we must begin to rebuild honor in the world by sharing the love and mercy of Christ, so that joy can again enter the world. The world has long been suffering, but together, we can begin to bring the peace and joy that we find in Christ to the world once again.
