New Bodies...

Our earthly bodies will one day perish:

"There are both heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the brightness of the heavenly is one kind and that of the earthly another...

So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown corruptible; it is raised incorruptible. It is sown dishonorable; it is raised glorious. It is sown weak; it is raised powerful. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual one."  -1 Corinthians 15:40-44, NAB

Our focus in life is often on this world.  We focus on our wants, needs, and desires for this life, and we often forget about the gifts waiting for us in heaven.  The life we live here on earth is one full of sin, but we have the hope of a life filled with God's love in heaven.

When we die, we die as sinners, separated from God because of the choices and mistakes we have made.  In death, we are made new again.  With our mistakes and poor choices behind us, we can begin a new life in a new heavenly body - a heavenly body free of the corruption of this world.  As Christians, we know this.  It is a basic tenet of the faith, yet we seem to quickly forget it.  We cling to this life, and we lose sight of the next life.  We are so focused on where we are today that we struggle to find hope for where we will be tomorrow.

The Catholic faith teaches us that there are great treasures waiting for us in heaven, but we hold tight to the treasures we have, and the ones we wish we had, today.  Being a true follower of Christ means that we are willing to give  up everything this world has to offer, if necessary, but many cannot find the strength to do this.  They find it difficult to let go of this life.  It is not something that only a few will face, but something that everyone will face at some point in their life.

If you are struggling with this, you are not alone.  There is no shame in admitting your struggles.  While you may be struggling, that does not give you the right to indulge in your struggles.  Instead, your whole life should be focused on overcoming those struggles and letting go of this world.  And, just because you overcome this struggle today, it does not mean that  you will not face the same struggle tomorrow.  Each day, we must set our hearts on the Lord, let go of our earthly bodies, and focus on our heavenly ones.
