A Special Thanksgiving Message...

Let us always remember to honor our God and Savior:

"Rejoice always.

Pray without ceasing.

In all circumstances give thanks,

...for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus."

-1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, NAB

The spacing of the text is intentional.  Each one of those statements deserves to stand on its own.  Instead of burying them in one small paragraph, I felt that it was important for them to stand out independently.

Rejoice always.  Even in the midst of our greatest troubles, we can still find reason to praise our God.  He gives us joy beyond compare, and He comforts us during our struggles.  Let's recognize this each and every day, not just once a year.  We have much more to be thankful for than a turkey full of stuffing.  Never stop rejoicing.

Pray without ceasing.  We cannot lose contact with our God.  Prayer should be more than something we say once a year before Thanksgiving dinner.  Instead, it should be a regular part of our daily life.  Communicating with God should be as natural as talking with a friend, neighbor, or family member.  Never stop praying.

In all circumstances give thanks.  When blessings come upon your life, give thanks for God's favor on your life.  When trials begin to overwhelm you, give thanks to God for carrying you through.  Each year, we spend Thanksgiving looking back on a year full of joys and sorrows, and we thank God for our many blessings, but we must make that a regular habit.  We can never thank God enough.  Never stop giving thanks.

God's will for our lives is clear: we must rejoice, pray, and give thanks unceasingly.  Christ loves to see the joy that comes to our lives through each of these, and this is something truly worth being thankful for.  With today's focus of giving thanks, let's not get too caught up in turkeys, good food, and football.  Instead, let's focus on giving our Father the thanks He deserves- thanks we should be giving Him all year long.
