Protection for the Night...

As you get ready for tonight's festivities, prepare your heart, body, and soul:

"Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil." -Ephesians 6:11 NAB

Now, I do not want to rain on anyone's good time, but I also want to make sure that everyone is safe this New Year.  New Year's is a great time for us to get together and celebrate another blessed year from the Lord, but as we celebrate, let us not forget who we are.

When the wine starts flowing, we are more likely to make poor choices or find ourselves in tempting situations.  Stand firm in your faith as a Catholic and Christian, and do not let the celebrations get out of hand.  You are a child of God today just as much as any other day.  Do not let the good times and celebrations get the best of you.

Please, by all means, go out and have a good time.  I want everyone to enjoy themselves tonight, but just remember to be responsible.  Do not drink yourself into a stupor.  Do not let the effects of alcohol cloud your judgment.  And, most importantly, remember to party safely and always have a designated driver.

Lord, I pray that you keep Your people safe tonight as they celebrate the passing of another year and the gift of life You have given us.  Strengthen us to make the right choices and act responsibly.  As 2012 approaches, You are the Lord of the New Year, just as You have been for all time.  Thank You for the blessings you have brought us in 2011, and the blessings you will bring in 2012.  In Your Holy Name we pray.  Amen.
