One Master...

It is not possible for us to serve more than one master:

"Do you not know that if you present yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?" -Romans 6:16 NAB

Slavery has long been considered one of the great evils of the world, for the past couple of centuries, at least.  How can one man own another?  To think that this was socially acceptable just 150 years ago in America is a strange thought.  Yet, as strange as it may seem for us, there are still slaves all around the world.

Our compassion and hearfelt sorrow goes out to those bound by slavery today.  It is hard to imagine those who live a life where someone else has control, but we often find ourselves caught up in slavery ourselves, but we become slaves to our sin and desires.  We are slaves to the things of this world, but we don't even seem to mind.

Can you go one day without your cell phone?  What would you do without television?  Does your career define who you are but keep you apart from your family?  Are you struggling with the bondage of addiction?  Do you find pornography acceptable?  Do you live solely for yourself?  If you search your heart to answer these questions, you can figure out who is truly your master.

There is one escape from the bondage of this world - Jesus Christ.  Instead of giving our lives over to the world, we can freely give our lives over to Christ and become slaves to the God that made us.  Do not be a slave to the things of this world; be a slave to the only Master worth serving.
