Life is so Unfair...

As bad as things may seem for us at times, in the end, it matters very little:

"I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us." -Romans 8:18 NAB

When we were a young child, we faced obstacles that seemed important to us at the time.  We would be upset if some kid had a toy that we didn't.  Our parents would make us eat things that we didn't like.  When we wanted to stay up late, we were told to go to bed early.  Life was so unfair.

As we got older and entered our teen years, we looked back at our childhood and thought of how silly those problems were.  As a teenager, things were much worse.  Homework always seemed to pile up.  There were always the added social pressures of high school and trying to fit in (and I was the nerd of all nerds).  And, of course, there was prom.  We won't even go into detail about the stress of prom.  Life was so unfair.

Eventually, we became young adults, and the problems of high school seemed so trivial.  Now, we had real problems.  College really pushed the limits of our intelligence.  Dating became a lot more serious all of a sudden.  Jobs became careers, and life presented us with a lot of difficult choices.  Life was so unfair.

Now, as we stand here as adults, our twenties seem a lot less difficult than they did at the time.  Today, we have to worry about the spouse, the kids, the house, the job, the car that won't run, the dog that makes a mess of the house, and the neighbor that makes too much noise.  Life is so unfair.  Or is it?  All along the way, we have continually thought that life was at its worst, but looking back, it was never really that bad.  Will we say the same thing about the problems we face today?

Hopefully, one day as we stand looking back at our lives from heaven, we will realize that all of the worries of this life mattered very little.  We get so caught up in the stresses of daily life, that we lose sight of the big picture.  Often times, we have a way of making our problems bigger than they really are, and they begin to consume us.  Each new problem makes life the "toughest its ever been."

Life is not that bad.  You made it through all of those trials and struggles in childhood, your teen years, and early adulthood, and you will make it through whatever you are facing right now as well.  Regardless of what obstacles may be in your path, they matter very little compared to what lies ahead.  Stop focusing on the nonsense of this world that tries to slow you down, and keep your eyes turned to the life that awaits us.  Trust me, it will be worth the wait.
