What You Cannot See...

True hope comes for what is yet to come:

"For in hope we were saved. Now hope that sees for itself is not hope. For who hopes for what one sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait with endurance." -Romans 8:24-25 NAB

Our hope comes from one place - our faith.  Without faith, we would not have hope.  Recently, I heard a great statement about faith and belief.  Believing in what we can see, touch, and feel is not faith; it is truth.  Believing the sky is blue is not a matter of faith; it is a matter of fact and truth.  Our faith in God does not come as easily.

Through Scripture and the teachings of the Church, we are taught that the Lord is the source of the real truth, but there is no evidence for it.  We cannot hold this truth in the palm of our hands.  We cannot snap a picture of this truth.  That is where faith comes in.  We believe that the Lord brings truth because we have faith, and because we have faith, we also have hope.

Our faith tells us that God has big plans in store for us.  Our faith tells us that He will one day deliver us from our suffering.  And, our faith tells us that we can have the hope for an eternity with Him in paradise.  I believe wholeheartedly that all of these statements are true, but I cannot prove a single one to you.  For you to truly believe and accept this, it all comes down to a matter of faith.

Believing in what we cannot see is essential to our faith, and with that, I leave you with this verse from Hebrews:

"Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen."  -Hebrews 11:1, NAB
