Trading Our Salvation...

Would you be willing to give up your salvation for the sake of another?

"I speak the truth in Christ, I do not lie; my conscience joins with the holy Spirit in bearing me witness that I have great sorrow and constant anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed and separated from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kin according to the flesh." -Romans 9:1-3 NAB

What an amazing act of faith!  St. Paul states that he would be willing to give up his own salvation for the sake of his brethren, the Israelites.  After waiting for so long for the Messiah to come, he was amazed that the Jewish people would reject Jesus as the Son of God.

In 2000 years, little has changed.  So many people have heard the truth about Christ, but they still choose to reject Him.  There are people who spend their whole lives seeking for the truth, but they fail to see the Truth that is Jesus Christ.  They have questions but reject the Answer.

Growing up in a country founded on Christian beliefs, it is sad to see how far the United States has drifted from its roots.  Christianity has not only been abandoned by many Americans, it is now getting to the point that Christians are considered religious zealots who are out of touch with mainstream society.  I say that we are not the ones who are out of touch with what really matters.

When we defend human life, we are called intolerant.  When we defend the sanctity of marriage, we are called ignorant.  When we stand up for our rights as believers in the public square, we are called oppressive.  But, we are not the ones who have become intolerant, ignorant, and oppressive.

It pains me to see our country becoming so secular, but it pains me even more when I see it close to home.  Nothing should be of greater sorrow for us as Christians than to see the ones we love reject Christ time and time again.  I fear what may happen if they never accept Christ into their lives.

Paul's amazing love for his countrymen and willingness to give up his own salvation is amazing.  Would you be willing to put it all on the line for the sake of the ones you love?  We may not be able to trade our salvation for theirs, but we can bear witness to them, regardless of the cost.  People may be upset by your forwardness, but it is a chance that we have to take.  Their souls may depend on it.  After all, where would you be if someone had not been so bold as to share the love of Christ with you?
