Lord of Our Life...

To be Christian means to completely give your life over to Christ:

None of us lives for oneself, and no one dies for oneself. For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord; so then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. For this is why Christ died and came to life, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living. -Romans 14:7-9, NAB

The most difficult part of being a Christian is to be willing to give our life completely over to Christ.  Not part of it, or some of it, but all of it.  We must realize that our lives are not our own.

We often use the word "Lord" to reference God, but do we actually allow Him to be the Lord of our lives?  Dictionary.com defines "lord" as a person who has "authority, control, or power over others (reference)."  If He is our Lord, it means that we submit to Christ's authority over us, but have we truly, honestly done that?

In a world where we are taught to take control over our lives, it seems foreign to give our life over to God, but we, as Catholics and Christians, do not subscribe to the ways of the world.  We need to let go of what the world teaches and follow the truth we find in Sacred Scripture and Tradition.  Easier said than done, I know.

What does it mean to make Christ the Lord of our lives?  It means that we must give up full control and trust Him to lead us in the right direction.  Instead of doing what we want to do, we must follow God's Will for our lives -regardless of what sacrifices we have to make.  When faced with a choice of which path to take, it doesn't matter if it is the easy path or tough path.  It doesn't matter if it is the path that we want to take.  What matters is that we take the path Christ wants us to take.

From this point forward, if you haven't already, make Christ the Lord of your life.  Give Him complete control.  Let go of your own wants and desires and follow the path that will lead you home to God.  You will never regret it.
