One Savior for All People...

Christ came to save not only the Jews, but also the Gentiles:

For I say that Christ became a minister of the circumcised to show God's truthfulness, to confirm the promises to the patriarchs, but so that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. -Romans 15:8-9, NAB

Today, we learn, once again, how Christ came to save all people.  First, He came as "a minister of the circumcised" - the Jews.  Then, He extended His mercy to the Gentiles - the rest of the world.  In this way, He fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament:

And again Isaiah says: "The root of Jesse shall come, raised up to rule the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles hope." -Romans 15:12, NAB

As we approach Easter, it is this hope that we celebrate.  Through Christ's death and resurrection, He brought hope to the hopeless; He extended God's grace to all peoples through His saving work on the cross.  He established a New Covenant, not with one family, one tribe, or one nation, but with the whole world.

God's merciful act of sacrificing His Son on the cross is the very root of our faith.  It defines who we are as Christians.  The act of crucifixion was a horrible, torturous death, yet we have boldly made the cross a symbol of our faith.  What evil men used in an attempt to stop Christ from completing His mission, He used as the means of our salvation.

In every way, Christ fulfilled the prophecies of the coming King of the Jews, but He did not stop there.  Through the New Covenant, Christ is the King of all Kings - of every tribe and every nation.  May we bow down and honor the One, True King, Jesus Christ.
