Welcome Home...

For those completing RCIA at the Easter Vigil, welcome home to the Catholic Church:

Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who went down and prayed for them, that they might receive the holy Spirit, for it had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them and they received the holy Spirit. -Acts 8:14-17

As a site dedicated to those going through RCIA and those looking to come into full communion with the Church, today, the Easter Vigil, is a very exciting day!  For everyone who is joining the Church this evening, let me be one of the first to say, "Welcome!  We are glad you could join us!"

From my own personal experience, I know what a long journey it can be to go through the RCIA process.  Unlike other denominations - where you simply fill out a postcard to become a member, the Catholic Church takes the Rite of Confirmation very seriously.  To complete RCIA means that you must have taken it very seriously as well, and I hope that it was as much of a life-changing experience for you as it was for me.

At this point, you must be feeling some relief because the long journey is over.  Well, let me be the first to tell you that the journey is just beginning!  Now that you can truly call yourself "Catholic," it's time to take the next step.  Actually, just last week, I was honored to give a quick presentation (about 60 minutes) to my local parish.  If you would like to listen in, follow this link.

What an amazing night!  In one evening, all three of the Sacraments of Initiation are held - the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Communion.  Through the Sacrament of Baptism, we are washed of the stains caused by Original Sin.  Next, the Sacrament of Confirmation both welcomes us into the Church and brings us the graces of the Holy Spirit.  Finally, as full members of the Church, we can accept the true body and blood of Christ through the Sacrament of Holy Communion.  All of this happens amidst one of the most beautiful Masses of the year!

This year, I was blessed with the opportunity to sponsor a friend as he went through the RCIA process, and it was truly a blessing.  Also, I already mentioned that I was allowed to teach and share my testimony.  Both of these are truly an honor because there is no greater moment in our lives.  I feel blessed to be a part of this moment with my fellow new Catholics, and I hope that I can continue to teach and share my experiences.

Once again, if you are being welcomed into the Church this evening through the Sacraments of Initiation, I want to welcome you with open arms.  Becoming Catholic was a life-changing event for me, and I hope that you will have the same experience.  May God be with you on your journey, and, as always, I am here if you have any questions.  God Bless you, today and always!
