Measure of Faith...

How deep is your faith in the healing power of Christ?

Many gathered together so that there was no longer room for them, not even around the door, and he preached the word to them. They came bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. Unable to get near Jesus because of the crowd, they opened up the roof above him. After they had broken through, they let down the mat on which the paralytic was lying. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Child, your sins are forgiven." -Mark 2:2-5, NAB

Faith is difficult to quantify.  How can we measure our faith?  Our faith may be difficult to measure, but our actions may show some of its outward depth.  In today's lesson from the Gospel of Mark, the paralytic man and his four companions showed what Jesus really meant to them.

With no way to bring this paralytic man into the crowded room to see Jesus, they tore open the roof and lowered him down.  This not only shows the faith of the paralytic man, but also of the four men that lowered him in.  They were willing to go to any lengths to come closer to Christ.  The faith of these four men extended beyond their own needs to the needs of another.

Sometimes, coming closer to Christ requires that we break through a few barriers and overcome a few obstacles.  If our faith is true and pure, these barriers will not stop us.  We should be willing to tear through the roof, break down the walls, or do whatever is necessary to come closer to Christ.

Examine your faith.  How far would you be willing to go in search of Christ's forgiveness?  Some are sadly waiting for Christ to do all the work and for Him to break down the barriers, but we must be willing to put in our own effort - no matter what it takes.

Our faith can be measured by the obstacles that we overcome.  These men overcame the obstacles in front of them, and Christ worked a mighty miracle.  Likewise, when we overcome the obstacles in front of us, there is no limit to the miraculous changes Christ can bring into our lives.
