Career Struggles?...

Sometimes, we just have to look at our career from a different angle:

Whatever you do, do from the heart, as for the Lord and not for others, knowing that you will receive from the Lord the due payment of the inheritance; be slaves of the Lord Christ. -Colossians 3:23-24, NAB

Have you ever been in a position where you did not like your job?  Do you feel that way now?  Do you struggle just to get out of bed in the morning?  Everyone has been through times like these at one point or another, and it can truly make our life challenging.

The average adult spends 40, 50, and even 60 hours a week working.  That means time away from family and doing the things we enjoy.  What can make that time at work even more difficult is when we loathe the job we're in.  Whether it's a coworker we don't like, or it's just a repetitive, boring routine, our job can really drag us down.

If we're stuck in a career rut, what do we do?  With the current job market, finding a new job is not as easy as it once was.  Even if we find a new company, maybe we don't like our chosen career path, and switching careers may not be financially feasible.  Quickly, we find ourselves in desparate need of a change.

Life may not present us the opportunity to change our careers, but we can always change our attitude towards our career.  We may not always know the reason God has us in one position or another.  We may not understand why we're having to endure a certain trial.  Regardless of what His reasons may be, we have to let go and trust Him.

In your daily work, stop focusing on how much you "like" your job and how much you "dislike" your boss.  Instead, accept the career God gave you as the blessing that it is.  Accept the paycheck that puts food on the table and a roof over your head.  Realize that it is only through God's blessing that you have a job in the first place.

May the work we do, whatever it may be, be pleasing to God.  Let our faith shine through our efforts and be an example to those around us.  After all, our one, true vocation is as disciples of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  Everything else just really doesn't matter.
