From the Womb...

The blessing of life itself began in our mother's womb:

You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother's womb. I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works! My very self you know. -Psalms 139:13-14, NAB

Life itself is truly a gift from God, and it all begins within our mother's womb.  God places this special gift in the caring hands of our mothers, and entrusts them to watch over us.

Women have a built-in nurturing nature.  Without thought, they naturally know how to take care of children.  While there are many men who are great fathers, there are few better things than the tender love a mother shows her child.  Many of our earliest memories are of the love our mothers have shown us.

Beyond being great mothers, women make wonderful stepmothers.  In today's society, with the rate of single parents and divorce rising, children are left in broken homes, but when a woman steps up as a stepmother, the child is now blessed with two women to love them.  I thank God everyday for my wife who is a wonderful stepmother to my daughter.

May this Mother's Day be a time to remember all of the wonderful things our mothers and grandmothers have done for us.  May we honor our wives for the love they show our children.  And, may we return the same care and support that our sisters, cousins, aunts, and all the women in our lives have given us.

"The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother."  -St. Therese of Lisieux
