Why Are You Afraid?...
We have little to fear, if we trust in the Lord:
On that day, as evening drew on, he said to them, "Let us cross to the other side." Leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat just as he was. And other boats were with him. A violent squall came up and waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was already filling up. Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a cushion.
We learn many great lessons from Christ's parables and teachings, but we can learn just as much, if not more, from His actions. In these last few verses of Mark 4, we learn that God will protect us, regardless of what storms we may be facing.
The men feared for their lives. The boat was being battered by large waves, and they were afraid that they would be overcome by the water. Do you feel waves crashing against your boat? Are you afraid that the squalls of this world will overcome you? Fear not, God is with you.
At times, we begin to feel alone and wonder if God is truly protecting us. As we face struggles in this world, we often feel as if God has abandoned us. Does God care for us? Will He protect us from harm? Just as Jesus is asleep in the boat, we wonder if God is taking a nap and leaving us to face our problems alone.
When they questioned Jesus, He stood up and quieted the sea. He removed them from danger and the problems they were facing. Too often, we sit back waiting for God to do the same for us, but, just as Jesus rebuked them for not having faith, are we showing that same lack of faith?
Cling to your faith. Know that God is always there protecting you. He will not allow you to face storms that you cannot handle. Instead of questioning God's presence, we must turn to Him in prayer and trust that He will be there for us. Regardless of what trials you may be facing, realize that you are never alone - God will always be with you.
