"Crucify Him!"...

Pilate asked the crowd what he should do with Jesus, and they shouted, "Crucify Him!":

Pilate again said to them in reply, "Then what (do you want) me to do with (the man you call) the king of the Jews?"

They shouted again, "Crucify him."

Pilate said to them, "Why? What evil has he done?"

They only shouted the louder, "Crucify him." So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas to them and, after he had Jesus scourged, handed him over to be crucified.  -Mark 15:12-15, NAB

There can be no mistake about what the crowd wanted from Pilate.  He asked them, and they plainly answered, "Crucify Him!"  When Pilate questioned what Jesus had done wrong, they shouted it even louder.

Pilate gave Christ's accusers the opportunity to realize what they were doing.  He asked what evil Jesus had done, but it did not make them waiver.  They did not even answer Pilate's question... because there was no answer; they simply wanted Jesus crucified.

The world seems bent on persecuting Christ and the Church (us) in the same way.  It has been that way for many centuries.  Society seems to go through highs and lows of faith, and unfortunately, we seem to be at one of those low points.

Society shouts to have faith taken from the public square, to remove God from our everyday lives, but they cannot justify their answers.  Like Christ's accusers at His trial, those who persecute God and the Church seem to have little justification either.  They use false claims and accusations to attempt to drive the Church out of society.

A week earlier, Jesus had been welcomed into Jerusalem like a King.  Now, the crowd was shouting for His execution.  It's amazing how quickly the opinions of man can change.  A short time ago, the United States was born as a Christian nation, but only two centuries later, we seem to have lost our way.

Jesus' fate was sealed.  He would soon be hung from a cross for crimes that He did not commit.  Our fate, however, is not sealed.  We can stand for religious freedoms in the public square.  We can make our voices heard.  Hopefully, we can help the world see the importance of living out our faith in our daily lives.  It's not too late to change our future.
