Keeping Your Facts Straight...

It's important to not follow false teaching; it might be more important to not preach it:

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach (to you) a gospel other than the one that we preached to you, let that one be accursed! As we have said before, and now I say again, if anyone preaches to you a gospel other than the one that you received, let that one be accursed! -Galatians, 1:8-9, NAB

Over and over again, we will hear not to follow false teachings, but in this Bible verse, St. Paul tells us what will happen to those who preach them: they will be cursed!  Following a false teaching can lead you down a dark path, but how much darker is it for the person sharing it?

For this very reason, I do my best to stay in line with the teachings of the Church.  Keeping your facts straight is an important part of sharing our faith.  If you don't know something, don't make it up.  Instead, be honest and go find the answer.

You will make mistakes from time to time.  Accidentally being incorrect about a Church doctrine will not condemn you.  However, knowingly preaching things that you are unsure about can be harmful - for you and whoever you're sharing it with.

Do not be that person that always has to have an answer.  It is this sin of pride that gets us in the most trouble.  When it comes to aspects of our faith, you should not be making it up as you go along.  Be humble enough to admit that you do not know.  If you realize that you've made a mistake, go back and fix it.  It's that simple.

Listen, you will make mistakes.  I am positive that I have made my share on this site.  When you notice your brother or sister making a mistake, do not condemn them; lovingly correct them.  If they still won't correct themselves, do not judge them (let God handle that).

At any time, if you feel that something on this site was wrong, please let me know.  I will correct it or show proof of why I wrote it.  When someone corrects you, you should do the same.  Everyone has to correct themselves at one time or another - there is nothing wrong with that.  The problem comes when we refuse to do so.

Remember, not following false teachings is important, but not spreading them is more important.  When you follow a false teaching, you damage yourself.  When you share a false teaching, you can damage others, as well.
