Finding Faith in Vain?...

By turning their backs on faith, the Galatians experiences were in vain:

Did you experience so many things in vain? - if indeed it was in vain. -Galatians 3:4, NAB

The Galatians, like all Christians, went through experiences that brought them to faith.  It may have been times of trial or suffering.  They may have witnessed miracles.  Surely, their baptisms were turning points in their lives.  But by turning their back on their faith in Jesus Christ, all of these experiences were in vain.

Without faith, being baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit was in vain.  Without faith, enduring the persecution felt by many early Christians was in vain.  And without faith, claiming to accept Christ in their lives would have been in vain.

Rejecting faith and trying to earn salvation through our deeds and works of the law, we are saying that Christ's death on the cross had no purpose, which means we found faith in vain.  Of course, we know that this is not true.  Christ did not die in vain; He died to save us from our sins.

The experiences of your life that led you to Christ were meant for a purpose: to help you find salvation through Christ.  Do not forget, then, these moments that brought you to where you are today.  Do not let your faith fall from the center of your spiritual life.  Otherwise, your experiences would have been in vain.

Rest assured, Christ did not die in vain.  Our actions, our experiences, may be in vain, but we will never find faith in vain.  When we truly accept Christ into our hearts, the mission of Christ is fulfilled in our lives and the promise of salvation has been opened to us.
