The Eyes of Your Heart...

The power, mercy, and glory of God is illuminated through His Son, Jesus Christ:

May the eyes of (your) hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call, what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones, and what is the surpassing greatness of his power for us who believe, in accord with the exercise of his great might... –Ephesians 1:18-19, NAB

How well do we actually understand the beauty and truth of our Christian faith?  Christ changes us, moves us, delivers us.  God's power is infiinite, and His love unending.  Only through the eyes of our heart can we actually see the fullness of God's grace.

At times, we get so caught up in the practice of our faith that we begin to lose a bit of the awe and wonder that we had when we first found it.  Today's verse, then, is a gentle reminder to keep our hearts focused on the original feelings we had in our first days as a Christian.

While holding onto our amazement of God in our hearts, we need to enlighten ourselves with further study, prayer, and worship that can take our faith to the next level.  As we begin to have a better understanding of what our faith really means to us, and the life that Christ has offered us, our convictions will continue to grow deeper.

Faith cannot be seen by the eye.  It is an inner force that continues to work in us as we grow as Christians.  Aided by the work of the Holy Spirit, we can develop our faith to open our spiritual eyes - the eyes of our heart, as St. Paul called them - to see the world in a whole new way.

May the eyes of your heart be opened to see the full beauty of Christ's light in your life and the glory of His work in our salvation.
