Remember Where You Came From...

As you settle into your daily Christian life, always remember where you came from:

Therefore, remember that at one time you, Gentiles in the flesh, called the uncircumcision by those called the circumcision, which is done in the flesh by human hands, were at that time without Christ, alienated from the community of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have become near by the blood of Christ. -Ephesians 2:11-13, NAB

St. Paul reminds the Ephesians of their days prior to becoming Christian. They were outsiders and alienated from the community.  We must remember our own time before becoming Christian and be gentle and compassionate when dealing with others outside the faith, or those whose faith is not as strong as our own.

Do you remember the days before you accepted Christ?  For some, that may have only been a short time ago; for others, they may have to look all the way back to their childhood.  Regardless of when it happened, remember not to judge those who have not accepted Christ yet.  Our goal is not to judge but to evangelize.

We have Christ in our lives because someone chose to share His love with us.  Instead of judgment, they showed us the grace and mercy of God.  Now, we must do the same for others.  This may be difficult, at times, but this is our primary call and duty as Christians.

Our own spiritual lives will continue to grow and expand, but we cannot judge others whose faith is not as strong.  At one time, we were at a place similar to them.  It is unfair to look down on those who are not as "devout" as we are.  Instead, we should help them grow in their own faith, as our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Remember where you came from.  At one time, you did not have Christ in your life, and once you did, it probably took years for your faith to develop.  Rather than judging others for their lack of faith, show them the beauty of God's grace and mercy so that, one day, they will share the same love of Christ that you have today.
