Matthew 6:34...

Don't spend your life worrying about the worst that can happen, because you will miss out on all of the best:

Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil. -Matthew 6:34, NAB

At times, it can be easy to get caught up in our fears - afraid of everything that could go wrong in our lives.  But we, as Christians, need to let go of those worries and trust in God's will for us.  Just focus on today, and take each day one day at a time.

Bad things happen.  It's a part of life.  Often times, there is little that we can do to stop it.  All we can do is try our best to prevent the worst from happening, and if the worst does come, we can deal with it then.  In the meantime, it does little good to live in fear of what may or may not happen.

If we spend our entire lives focused on the future, overcome by our fears, we will miss out on all of the great things happening in our lives right now.  There are times that we are surrounded by blessings, but we struggle to see them past the fears that blind us.

Recently, in a situation that brought a huge blessing in my life, a surprising number of people seemed more focused on everything that could go wrong.  Instead of enjoying the moment, the huge blessing that it is, they were more worried about what could happen tomorrow, the day after, or the week after that.

As I began today's reflection - don't spend your life worrying about the worst that can happen, because you will miss out on all of the best.  Focus on today.  God wants you to enjoy the blessings of today and let go of the fears of tomorrow.  If you make all of your todays focused on the positive, it will make all of your tomorrows that much brighter.

NOTE: On Saturdays, I will now be posting reflections for the Saturday evening and Sunday morning Mass readings.  Sundays will continue to be special topics based on relevant current events, and weekdays will continue to focus on a given book of the Bible (which is currently Ephesians).
