Bold Faith...

To have the greatest impact, we must not remain quiet about our faith in Jesus Christ :

This was according to the eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness of speech and confidence of access through faith in him. -Ephesians 3:11-12, NAB

The members of the early Church were persecuted for their beliefs.  Many became martyrs, and others were imprisoned for being Christians.  Do we have that same bold faith - willing to give up everything in the name of Christ?

St. Paul calls us to this bold faith, and he practiced what he preached.  Not only was he imprisoned and exiled for his faith, but tradition also tells us that he was martyred, as well.

We can read countless stories of saints that lived similar lives.  While boldly sharing and preaching the Gospel, many faced a fate that was similar to Paul's.

We may never face anything quite like this.  We will probably not die in the name of Christ.  However, we are still given opportunities to live a bold faith.  Do we live up to the challenge?  When we are given a situation to boldly profess our faith in Christ, do we respond?

Unfortunately, while many saints and martyrs gave their lives in the name of Christ, we sometimes fail to even acknowledge Him.  Life brings us opportunities to share our faith, and we become shy about telling the Truth.  Fear of rejection and not being accepted by society stops us from following the example of St. Paul.

St. Peter infamously denied Christ three times, but he was given another chance.  With that second opportunity, St. Peter became one of the strongest voices the Church has ever known.  The same can be true for us.  We may have failed, at one time or another, to share the faith, but it is not too late to take a different path.

Embrace a bold faith.  Do not let another opportunity pass by to share the love, grace, and mercy of Christ.  The world seems to need Him now more than ever.

NOTE: On Saturdays, I will now be posting reflections for the Saturday evening and Sunday morning Mass readings.  Sundays will continue to be special topics based on relevant current events, and weekdays will continue to focus on a given book of the Bible (which is currently Ephesians).
