Separate Yourself...

Can you separate yourself from the world?

So I declare and testify in the Lord that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds; darkened in understanding, alienated from the life of God because of their ignorance, because of their hardness of heart, they have become callous and have handed themselves over to licentiousness for the practice of every kind of impurity to excess. -Ephesians 4:17-19, NAB

The challenge given by St. Paul in this verse reads like a modern day challenge to us, as we seem to find ourselves in the same situation today.  Can you separate yourself from a world that has turned its back on God?

The world alienates itself from God because of its reliance on the minds of men, who use science and "modern thought" to pull people away from our Creator.  But their intelligence leads to their ignorance.  They seek a deeper understanding of life but always come up empty.

Society teaches that man is the meaning of his own existence, and self-gratification is the key to happiness.  Is it really?  Has embracing greed, lust, and personal status really led to a better life for most of the world?  Is the world a better place to live in than it was 50 or 100 years ago, morally-speaking?

There is a better way.  In Christ, we can find the true meaning and purpose of every man, woman, and child.  We find a morality that lifts up the dignity of every human life, including the unborn, the sick, and the poorest of poor.

The world tells us to embrace life to excess, but the only excess we should strive for should come in faith and love.  Separate yourself from the world by embracing a better life through Christ.
