Power of Death...

There is only one way to overcome the power of death:

Now since the children share in blood and flesh, he likewise shared in them, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and free those who through fear of death had been subject to slavery all their life.  -Hebrews 2:14-15, NAB

Death frightens us.  The devil knows this, and he uses that fear against us.  Through our fear of death, the devil uses our selfish desires to lead us to sin, and in that way, it is our fear of death that often leads us directly to it.

Christ knew that we could never free ourselves from sin until death had been conquered, so He took death head on.  By overcoming death, Christ has freed us from the bondage of sin; however, many still reject Christ and try to conquer death themselves, which can only have one outcome.

Can you see the impact the fear of death has on society?  Take a look around at man's feeble attempts to gain immortality.  We do everything we can to extend our lives as long as possible, and some will do this at all costs.  They care less about what they have to do to extend their lives, or who they have to hurt, just to gain a few extra moments on this earth.

There is a better way.  Through Christ, we can overcome the power of death and accept a new life in Him.  We can join in the inheritance of His Kingdom by meeting Him at the cross.  By accepting the sacrifice He made on our behalf, we can be freed from sin and death forever.

The fear of death is what gives death its power over our lives.  With Christ, we can overcome that fear and gain a new life in Him.  Do not be a slave to sin and death any longer.
