More Glory than Moses...

The author of Hebrews makes a bold statement to the Hebrews, offering Jesus more glory than Moses:

Therefore, holy "brothers," sharing in a heavenly calling, reflect on Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was "faithful in (all) his house." But he is worthy of more "glory" than Moses, as the founder of a house has more "honor" than the house itself.  Every house is founded by someone, but the founder of all is God.  -Hebrews 3:1-4, NAB

For the Jewish people, few names mean more to them than Moses.  Moses had mediated a covenant between God and His chosen people, he brought the people out of exile, and he even delivered the 10 Commandments to them.

Few people in history had a greater impact on the world than Moses, and he holds a very special place in the heart of the Jewish people, so for the author of Hebrews to say that Jesus was greater than Moses was a very impactful statement.

Remember, this letter was addressed directly to the Hebrews.  This statement, then, was meant to challenge their beliefs.  The author is telling them how important of a figure Jesus Christ should be in their lives.  He was not simply a prophet, He was the Son of God - greater than even Moses.

It had to be difficult for the Jews to give anyone more glory than Moses.  To do this, they would have to fully accept Jesus Christ as their Savior; it was the only way.  Even more importantly, they had to recognize that Jesus was God.  Many of them found this blasphemous, but we know differently.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is worthy of more glory than Moses.  Moses mediated a covenant with God, but Jesus is God and mediated a covenant with us.
