Reflection of Heaven...

At the tabernacle, we see a reflection of heaven:

The main point of what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle that the Lord, not man, set up... [The priests] worship in a copy and shadow of the heavenly sanctuary, as Moses was warned when he was about to erect the tabernacle. For he says, "See that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain."  -Hebrews 8:1-2,5, NAB

The Jewish tabernacle of the Old Testament and our Catholic Mass today are reflections of heaven on earth.  Our worship on earth was created to emulate the liturgy in heaven, where the saints and angels praise God eternally.

When Moses created the tabernacle in the desert, he created it based on the instructions given to him directly from God.  It represented God's throne in heaven here on earth.  God gave the Israelites a way to approach Him in a more tangible way.

The Mass was created with the same idea in mind.  We can approach Christ in the tabernacle and at the alter as we take part in the liturgy.  Our prayers and worship on earth join with the saints and angels in heaven as we seek to glorify our God.

Mass, then, is more than just an obligation - it is something to be excited about!  Through the liturgy, we are joining with the saints and angels in praise of the Lord.  We kneel before our earthly tabernacles as we look up to the true tabernacle in heaven, where Christ sits in His majesty.

At this weekend's Mass, remember that you are not just attending a weekly obligation - you are seeing a reflection of heaven.  Join the saints and angels in heaven by worshiping the one true King.
