The Inheritance of Christ...

We could not claim the inheritance of Christ without the death of Jesus first:

Now where there is a will, the death of the testator must be established. For a will takes effect only at death; it has no force while the testator is alive. Thus not even the first covenant was inaugurated without blood.  -Hebrews 9:16-18 NAB

Have you ever tried to claim an inheritance from someone before they were gone?  Of course not.  You cannot claim the inheritance until after they are gone and the will is read.  Likewise, we could not inherit the kingdom until the death of the King.

How can this be true?  How can we inherit the Kingdom of God?

The Kingdom of God belongs to our Creator.  One Person of the Holy Trinity, the Son, died so that we could inherit it from Him.  As in today's verse, "a will takes effect only at death," which means that Christ's death was necessary for us to inherit this great gift.

When Christ died, the inheritance was opened up to all of mankind - if we choose it.  Like any inheritance, though, it usually passed on to sons and daughters, which is why we must become children of our Father in heaven.

But we must be careful not to take this for granted.  Even sons and daughters can be removed from the will and lose their inheritance:

Do you not know that the unjust will not inherit the kingdom of God?  -1 Corinthians 6:9, NAB

Christ died so that we might claim our inheritance to the Kingdom of God.  The sons and daughters of the Father will one day claim their reward.
