The Sacrament of Confession gives us hope:

The holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying: "This is the covenant I will establish with them after those days, says the Lord: 'I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them upon their minds,'" he also says: "Their sins and their evildoing I will remember no more." ...Let us hold unwaveringly to our confession that gives us hope, for he who made the promise is trustworthy.  -Hebrews 10:16-18, 23 NAB

The Sacrament of Confession is one of the greatest gifts God has given us and one we desperately need.  Despite its benefits, Confession remains the sacrament that many of us avoid the most.

Why go to Confession?

Our sins, over time, will begin to separate us from God.  They are a heavy burden on our souls.  Through Confession, that burden is lifted off of us, and we are reconciled to God once again.  We are rebuilding the most important relationship in our lives.

Why do we avoid it, then?

Some may be embarassed to share their mistakes and errors openly.  Some may not understand the need for the sacrament.  While these situations may be the case for some, many unfortunately do not have confidence in the power of Confession.

Today's verse tells us that we can have confidence in the power of Confession.  The sacrament should bring us hope for the forgiveness of our sins.  We should delight in the knowledge that God will remember our sins no more.

Confession is not just an obligation of our Catholic faith; it is one of the beautiful sacraments that helps to mend and repair our relationship with God.  Let the healing powers found in the confessional renew your faith and bring you ever closer to God.  If you have not been to Confession for awhile, it's time to go today.
