The Faith of Joshua...

The faith of Joshua shows us to trust in the Lord's ways, not our own:

By faith the walls of Jericho fell after being encircled for seven days.  -Hebrews 11:30, NAB

Joshua 6 tells us the story of how the walls of Jericho came tumbling down.  God gave Joshua some very specific instructions, and Joshua followed them exactly.  The Lord's method was unusual, but it worked.

What did God have Joshua do?

For six days, all of the soldiers marched around the city in one giant circle with seven priests carrying horns leading the Ark in front of them.  On the seventh day, they marched around seven times, and at the end of the seventh time around, the seven priests blew their horns and the soldiers shouted loudly to make the walls come down.

It seems strange, I know.  Imagine the U.S. soldiers circling Baghdad seven times, blowing horns, and shouting at the walls during the Iraq War.  I doubt that it would have worked.

The key to this story, then, is the faith of Joshua and his trust in God's plan, as unusual as it was.  The Lord's ways are not our own, but if we trust in His ways (like Joshua), amazing things will happen.

Some people may still be confused.  How was this physically possible?  Faith is not about what's physically possible; it's about what's spiritually possible.  And as we learned in yesterday's verse, "for God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26, NAB)."

God may lead you into some directions that you do not understand, but if you have faith in Him, any obstacle in your path will come tumbling down like the walls of Jericho.
