Prisoners of Faith...

Remember those who are prisoners of faith:

Be mindful of prisoners as if sharing their imprisonment, and of the ill-treated as of yourselves, for you also are in the body.  -Hebrews 13:3, NAB

From the earliest days of Christianity, men and women have been prisoners of faith, persecuted for their beliefs.  While we often recognize the martyrs who gave their lives for their faith, we must not forget to remember those that spent their lives imprisoned for Christ.

In today's modern world, this is not something we acknowledge very often.  It is not common in Western society, but it still happens in many other parts of the world.  For instance, a Christian pastor, Saeed Abedini, has been in jail in Iran for almost a year because of his faith in Christ.

Other missionaries have faced the same fate.  As they travel around the world trying to share the Gospel, their activities often land them in prison.  Walking into these situations knowingly, their courage shows the strength that comes through Christ.

Some fear that Western society is shifting.  We are slowly becoming more secularized, and religious freedoms are beginning to disappear.  One day, we may also become prisoners of faith.  Are you prepared to be imprisoned for your beliefs, if that day ever comes?

The author's point in this verse is for us to remember the persecuted Christians of the world, including men and women like Saeed Abedini.  They are brothers and sisters in Christ who desperately need our love and prayers.
