Proverbs 3:5...

In honor of the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, I want to take a moment to speak about understanding God's will for our lives:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, on your own intelligence rely not.  -Proverbs 3:5, NAB

I chose St. Ignatius of Loyola as my patron saint and Confirmation name.  As such, I have taken some time to understand his work, and a lot of it boils down to one thing: understanding God's will for our lives.

I am not a Jesuit.  I have not been on an Ignatian retreat (although, it is extremely high on my bucket list).  I am simply inspired by the work St. Ignatius has done for the Church.  This soldier turned student of the faith has impacted generations through his discoveries.

One of the primary goals of Ignatian spirituality is to make better decisions based on God's will for our lives, which can only be done by quieting the noise of the world (even the noise we create ourselves) and truly listening to what God is trying to tell us.  A famous quote from St. Ignatius reads:

"Few souls understand what God would accomplish in them if they were to abandon themselves unreservedly to Him and if they were to allow His grace to mold them accordingly."  -St. Ignatius of Loyola

In other words, we need to open our hearts to God's will for our lives and allow Him to work through us.  When we do, amazing things will happen.  Our lives will transform in beautiful ways.  From my own experience, I can tell you that it works.

For the past few years, I have let God guide me in this ministry, which includes this website, a book, and more things to come.  I am no one special.  I am just a guy sitting behind a computer from a small town outside of Chicago.  My life is rather ordinary, and I have no special gifts.  I have simply allowed God's will to guide me.

God can do amazing things through each one of us - including you!  We simply need to open our hearts and follow God's will for our lives.  Quiet the noise of the world, silence your own wants and desires, and listen for the voice of God calling you to something more.
