The Blessing to do God's Will....

The author offers blessings to the reader from the Great Shepherd, Jesus Christ:

May the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep by the blood of the eternal covenant, Jesus our Lord, furnish you with all that is good, that you may do his will. May he carry out in you what is pleasing to him through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever (and ever). Amen.  -Hebrews 13:20-21, NAB

Many times, we ask for God's blessings on our families, our careers, our financial situations, our health, and a host of other reasons.  The blessing found in Hebrews 13 is far more important than any of those.  Here, he asks for the blessing to do God's will.

The author recognizes the importance of doing God's will and that, sometimes, we need a little help doing it.  Left on our own accord, we would surely fail, but with a little help from God, doing His will becomes a little easier.

No one ever said that the Christian life is easy.  Having faith in an invisible God is not easy.  Putting your complete trust in the Lord is not easy.  Following a strict moral code is not easy.  Separating God's will from our own desires is not easy.  To accomplish any of these, we do so through the grace of God.

It only makes sense, then, to ask for God's help in accomplishing HIs will.  We should not simply expect it; we should ask for it.  That's why this verse is so beautiful.  The author asks for God to bless us in this way, and we can do the same for others.

One of God's greatest blessings on us is the chance and ability to do His will.  May God bless each of us with the knowledge, courage, strength, and moral compass to follow God's will wherever it may take us.
