Ask in Faith....

When we turn to God in prayer, do we ask in faith?

But he should ask in faith, not doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed about by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord, since he is a man of two minds, unstable in all his ways.  -James 1:6-8, NAB

In James 1:5, we were told to ask God for wisdom through prayer, and James 1:6-8 continues by telling us that we must ask in faith.  We must trust God without doubting that He can and will help us.

St. James tells us that when we doubt God will help us, we are "like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed about by the wind."  In other words, our lack of faith allows us to be pushed around by all of the doubts and fears thrown at us by the world.

Doubt is one of the devil's most subtle yet effective weapons.  He loves to plant seeds of doubt in our mind because he no longer has to defeat us - we defeat ourselves.  He may plant the seed, but we are the ones who water, feed, and cultivate it.

Doubt and faith are polar opposites, and they occupy the same space in the spirit and mind.  The more room taken by one leaves less room for the other.  Therefore, if we allow doubt to overcome us, there is little room for faith.

The opposite is also true.  If we fill ourselves with faith, doubt has no room to take root in our lives.  We will no longer be tossed around by the waves of doubt because we will find peace in the calm, still waters of faith.

When we turn to God in prayer, we must ask in faith.  Make faith a priority to leave no room for doubt in your mind.  A prayer asked in faith is a prayer that will surely be answered.
