Mercy Triumphs Over Judgment....

Who are we to judge?

So speak and so act as people who will be judged by the law of freedom. For the judgment is merciless to one who has not shown mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.  -James 2:12-13, NAB

We are quick to judge others for their mistakes.  We somehow forget about our own mistakes and look down on them for their shortcomings.  But we must not forget that we will be judged ourselves someday.

When we finally stand before God, we will be judged for our actions.  Our hope is that we will be shown mercy because of our faith in Christ.  However, is it fair for us to desire mercy when we never offered it to others?

To show our gratitude and thanks for Christ's mercy, He wants us to show it to others in return.  People will make mistakes.  Our family and friends may offend or hurt us.  Nevertheless, we are called to show them mercy.  We must forgive others the way Christ has forgiven us.

Some will say that they don't deserve mercy or our forgiveness, and that may be true.  Mercy is not something that is earned - it is freely given.  Through grace, we forgive the unforgivable.  In the same way, Christ graciously offers us mercy and forgiveness.

It can be difficult to forgive those who have made mistakes or hurt us, but mercy triumphs over judgment.  Show others the same mercy that you desire from Christ.  The mercy you receive will be measured by the mercy you have offered.
