Philippians 2:3-4...

One of the most difficult challenges is to be a family of sacrifice - to put the needs of our family members before our own:

Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but (also) everyone for those of others.  -Philippians 2:3-4, NAB

I am tired.  My little girl was born just over a month ago, and my life has already changed drastically.  While I thought I had little time to take care of my own priorities and goals before, it has reached a new level.  These first few weeks are a tough reminder about what really matters.

It's easy to get frustrated.  My list of tasks and chores continues to pile up faster than I can complete them, and when I finally think I have a chance to get something done, my fatherly duty calls.

Normally, I would start out my days writing these Daily Bible Verses, writing and editing for other blogs, and continuing to promote my book.  Now, my mornings are filled with baby bottles, dirty diapers, and a little girl that likes to wake up early.

But every time I begin to get frustrated about falling behind (like posting this page 10 hours late), I try to reflect on today's verse.  While the work I do behind this computer screen matters, it pales in comparison to my vocation as a husband and father.

Of course, I'm not alone.  My wife has made her share of sacrifices, as well - including taking some time off from work to be with our baby.  And I think it's our mutual efforts to sacrifice our own needs for the sake of our family that has held us together.

I love my wife.  I love my girls.  And I'm proud that we can put each others' needs before our own.  We are a family of sacrifice, and because of it, we will be a family that thrives.
